Frequently Asked Questions
So you have a few questions...
We are dedicated to Customer Service, therefore it is important you are completely informed about what you want to know. These are some common questions that may help you in answering some of your questions. Wedding and School Event specific questions are also listed.
First of all, what sets you apart from every other DJ service out there?
- We are personal. We want to know the people we are working with, which means we want to know you. Rather than having you fill out some online form that is "supposed to help us understand your needs," we want to talk to you, in person, and find out what it is you are looking for. Once we have that, then we can plan your event. We like in-person meetings over phone calls, and phone calls over emails because we want to have a relationship with our clients. When we setup our equipment at your event, you will recognize us as your entertainer due to the business relationship we have formed, not because we are moving audio equipment.
- Also, we don't just play music. We are entertainers. We like to be a part of the fun, not just a human jukebox. Our job is to make you and your guests an entertaining event that you can look back on and say, "I want to have fun like that again." We have memories like that, and we want to make more, with you.
What types of music do you play?
- We play what you want to hear; it's that simple. Our large collection of music ranges from Oldies and Jazz to Hip-Hop and Techno/House music. When we come to see you, we ask what types of music you are interested in. This is your event, we're just the entertainers.
How do your DJ's handle requests?
- Any way that you would like us to. We generally ask our clients to provide us a list of "must play" and "black list" songs, along with a genre or two that they would also like to hear and not hear. Our DJ's know how to keep the crowd dancing and, unless otherwise requested, we will take the requests as suggestions. We obviously cannot cater to every guest's desired song, but we do try to cater to as many as we can. If a song that is requested is on the list not to be played, you will never hear that song. In the end, this is still your event. We cater to you first.
I read that DJ's only use "clean" music. What exactly does that mean?
- The term "clean" music refers to songs that have been edited for radio airplay. They have been edited to the FCC daytime radio broadcast standards. This is how the majority of our music is. Unless we are asked to specifically, we only play "clean" music. Some clients enjoy the unedited "explicit" versions, and we will play those only if specifically asked to by yourself. Having said that, we will not accept or play any CDs from guests at your party unless we have approval from you first.
If a song is "clean" does that mean that it is then appropriate for all ages?
- Unfortunately, no. "Clean" songs may have most of the profanity removed, but the thematic elements of the song and any innuendo remain unchanged. If you can hear it on the radio, it will be the same when we play it. Our DJs are trained to know when and where these "border songs" are allowed.
I see a number of services on your website as well as several different packages. How do I know what it best for my event?
- The simple answer to this questions is that the best description in the world is no match for the expert advice of one of our DJs. When you are planning an event, the DJ you will be assigned will help you through the process of deciding what suits your needs AND your budget. We will not even attempt to push you towards something that isn't in your budget.
I don't really know what a "light show" is or why I would want one. Can you describe it?
- When most people hear the term "light show" they first think of a laser show or something similar. In reality, a light show is much like something you would see at a concert of your favorite band, but scaled down to fit a party. The purpose of light shows is to add energy, excitement, and color to the dance floor to create a party atmosphere.
How far in advance would I need to contact you to make sure that I can get one of your DJ's?
- The best answer to this question is as soon as you have a firm date, location, and times you will need the DJ. We strictly encourage our clients to give us a minimum of two months notice prior to the event so all planning can be done and a contract can be established with one month to dodge any unforseen problems that can occur.
What areas do you serve and are there any traveling costs?
- We are a Limited Liability Company registered in the state of Georgia, and based out of Dalton, GA. We service the counties of Whitfield, Catoosa, and Murray without additional travel charges. Beyond the county lines of the ones listed above, we charge $.50 a mile. This is only to cover the cost of fuel to and from the location you have reserved for your event.
Wedding Questions:
If you are a Bride or Groom to be, then we know you are already busy making many decisions about your big day, and the last thing you need is to be leaving messages on your entertainer's answering machine about different things. Problem solved! Here are some frequently asked wedding specific questions:
Why would I want to have two DJ's at my wedding instead of the single performer packages that everyone else offers?
- With many of our events we have two DJs so handle many different aspects of your entertainment. Our equipment is occaisionally large and heavy, therefore requiring more than one person. With weddings, our DJs also move away from the "human jukebox" and Emcee for your wedding, by making announcements and interacting with your guests.
In your site you describe your style as upbeat but never “cheesy.” What does that mean exactly?
- At the most basic level, our DJs are there to entertain you and your guests. During the "party" portion of the wedding, we take this celebration to the next level. We have fun with everyone from the wedding party to the bachelor friends of the groom who are busy sampling the cake before you've cut it. We enjoy what we do, and we want to make sure your day is as special as it can be.
What types of music do you play for weddings?
- Whatever you want. That's as simple as we can be. There are certain songs that are generally reserved for weddings, ie: love songs, that we play. Weddings are interesting because there is often a much broader audience of many different generations of friends and family members. We cater to this as much as possible by filling our playlist with songs that everyone can dance to.
School Event Questions:
If you are a School Administrator, Student, Faculty, or a Chaperone then you probably have a few additional questions that aren't answered above. We had you in mind when we answered these following questions for you:
I am a student and I would like to book RockShow DJ for a dance at my school. What do I need to do?
- Well, you can start by sending us an email! We are glad to discuss with you about the details for your upcoming dance including the different packages we offer, the budget you are working with, and options to expand any packages we have to maximize the fun you are going to have. After that exchange, we will have to complete the arrangements with someone employed at the school(usually a class sponsor or administrator) to make sure that what we had discussed will be acceptable, as well as gathering some extra information that you may not have. We can also setup a planning meeting at your school to discuss all of the event details with the members of your student council, administrators, sponsors, and whomever else you would like.
We have a very diverse student body. What kinds of music do you play for groups like that?
- Today's school systems are growing increasingly diverse in terms of both culture and musical tastes. We have, and play, music from a broad variety of genres including Top 40, pop, hip hop, country, reggae, rock, reggaeton, latin, house/techno, and more. Every month we constantly update our music collections with hits from all of these genres so no matter what your crowd, we can rock your next party.
How do your packages differ for different age groups?
- Simply put, the younger the age group, the cleaner the music must and will be, and the more interactive the DJs become. High School students will dance and have a great time with some good music that sets the right mood, but elementary school students for example require a bit more activity at events specifically for them. Interactive games, contests, and other activities to keep the attention of a younger audience. Middle School aged students generaly take a combination of the two depending on the environment of the party.
I have heard of schools having problems with inappropriate dancing. How do you help to control this?
- Numerous schools and even entire school districts have
made new policies to try to control the suggestive form of dancing
known as "freak dancing" which has gotten a fair amount of media
attention in the last year. Let's face it, dances are supposed to be
fun gatherings of friends who have come to dance and socialize which is
made much more difficult with flood lights being turned on and
administrators having to police the crowd to enforce the policies. In
such a situation, no one has as much fun as they could because for as
much as the students don't like having their dancing scrutinized, the
administrators and teachers charged with enforcing the dancing rules
probably aren't having much fun either. There is a better way.
While there is virtually nothing that any DJ could do to stop inappropriate dancing entirely, this situation is again where our experience goes a long way. Our performers play so much more than just a never ending string of hip hop tracks. We do our part to help diminish the occurrence of freak dancing by weaving together all of the top songs of the moment with party favorites from the past. To this we add group dances like the Cha Cha Slide and slow songs to change the tempo even further while maintaining a great party atmosphere.
